AYURVEDIC TREATMENT OF MIGRAINE


Migraine is a common ailment for many people. It is a health problem that is faced by more than 10 percent of the world's population. There are many ways to cure migraine headache but nothing really works permanently, except a few Ayurvedic remedies.

It is believed that a proper and healthy diet can cure migraine naturally. However, unhealthy lifestyle or habits can trigger such headaches. So here are few tips to keep in mind for a healthy living.

Ayurvedic treatment of Migraine  

According to Ayurveda the migraine attacks are precipitated because of too much vata vitiation. Vata along with Pitta is involved to cause the severe one side headache.

The causes of vata vitiation which causes a migraine attack are

1. Stress
2. Anxiety
3. Depression
4. Constipation
5. Late night sleep
6. Too much physical exertion
7. Motion sickness and traveling
8. Indigestion
9. Hormonal imbalances

Healthy habits to avoid migraine attack:

Eat on time: Skipping your meal due to any reasons can affect your health in many ways. If you are suffering from migraine and dieting at the same time, do not mistake to think that skipping meals will help you lose those extra body fat. You will end up increasing your blood sugar levels and this can ultimately cause migraine. Also the acidity affects your brain and causes headache. To avoid it, eat on time and regularly. Do not skip your meal or eat too less.

Exercise: A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. To stay fit and active, you should exercise regularly. This also helps avoid migraine attack. If you are stressed, just go for a walk or swim or practice yoga for some time. This will not only prevent migraine headache but, also make you feel fresh and rejuvenated. Adequate sleep: Too much sleep or lack of sleep, both affects your body. Have adequate sleep to avoid migraine headache. Ideally, an adult should sleep for 6-7 hours and not more than 9 hours a day. Maintain a sleep schedule for better results.

Quit bad habits: Smoking or drinking can increase the migraine attack. If you think smoking can help overcome the headache then think again! The nicotine not only leads to inflammation in the throat and lungs but also makes you addicted to it. Alcohol has tyramine that triggers migraine. When consumed excessively, alcohol can lead to headache and a hangover.

Take a break: Working professionals are getting more prone to migraine attacks. Working non-stop without a break, fills you with stress. So, reduce your work pressure by going out for some time. For example, talk to your colleague for a minute or relax in the rest room for 5 minutes. Do not take the break for granted and harm your work productivity!

These are few healthy habits that can cure as well as prevent you from migraine attack. Drink lots of water as dehydration also cause migraine headache.

Natural remedies to treat Migraine
According to ayurveda, the following remedies are suggested in the following dosage

1. Cap.Brahmi – 2 twice daily
2. Medhya Churna  - 1 teaspoonful twice daily
3. Vara Churna -1  teaspoonful twice daily  

4. Mixture of the following –

Praval Panchamrit – 5 gm
Akik Pishti – 10 gm
Kamdudha ras – 10 gm
Mukta Pishti – 2 gm
Godanti Bhasma – 5 gm
Swarn Makshik Bhasma – 5 gm
Giloy Satv – 5 gm
Shirshooladi Vajra Ras -  5 gm
Bramhi Vati with Gold – 2 gram
Yogender Ras – 1 gm

Make 60 packs of all these, mix together and consume 1 pack twice daily with honey.


5. Bramhi Ghrit  - 1 teaspoonful at night with milk
6. Tab. Cephagraine - 2 twice daily
